Director of Quality Systems

Description

The Director of Quality Systems will manage the food safety/quality (SQF) program of a bakery in Newark, NJ and Clifton, NJ. Must be able to plan and organize schedules and budgets in an efficient, productive manner. Focuses on key priorities. Effectively juggles multiple projects. Anticipates reasonable contingencies. Pays appropriate attention to detail. 

Must be able to manage personal time.


Responsibilities:


  • Oversees and manages food safety and quality programs, including SQF compliance.
  • Balances decisiveness with thoughtful analysis, ensuring logical and effective decision-making.
  • Exercises sound judgment, anticipates the consequences of decisions, and takes proactive measures.
  • Identifies and capitalizes on opportunities, consistently exceeding expectations.
  • Effectively trains, mentors, and develops employees, preparing them for future leadership roles.
  • Assigns challenging tasks to foster professional growth and skill development.
  • Conducts thorough analysis of current and emerging trends to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Oversees employee disciplinary actions, investigations, and terminations as necessary.
  • Serves as a backup for key roles, including HACCP Coordinator, FSPCA, SQF, and Internal Auditor.
  • Provides support to senior management, acting as a backup to the Director of Quality and Quality Systems Supervisor.
  • Manages the complaint program, ensuring timely reporting to management on a weekly basis.
  • Supports crisis management efforts and assists in handling any unforeseen incidents.
  • Oversees environmental programs, ensuring compliance and effectiveness.
  • Develops and manages the bakery’s training program to maintain high operational standards.
  • Ensures all water and air supply documentation is current, collaborating with the maintenance department to integrate these systems into a preventative maintenance plan.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications:


  • A minimum of three years to five years’ experience in the food manufacturing (bakery) industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, planning, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and able to communicate with all levels of the business. Bilingual in English & Spanish is preferred.
  • High tolerance for stress and ability to demonstrate sound judgment and decision- making under pressure.
